The women who remember.

Who stay.

Who make room.

Who… bring cake.

So much of a woman’s life is held by other women.

A message sent at exactly the right moment.

A seat saved.

A meal left at the door.

Someone remembering your child’s name.

Someone noticing you’re not quite yourself.

Someone saying, Come with me.

Someone believing you before you’ve even finished explaining.

Women is a collection of short fictional vignettes about these small moments of care, kindness and connection.

The things women do for one another every day, often without thinking much of them.

There are women we know well. Friends. Sisters. Mothers. Daughters. Women we have shared years with.

And then there are the women we may never see again.

These stories are about those women.

About friendship and sisterhood, yes, but also about the quiet connections between women who may never know how much their kindness mattered.

Written in quiet, reflective prose, Women is a celebration of the thousands of little things we do for one another without ceremony.

The story behind the book

I’ve always believed in the power of women.

Even as a child, I think I was aware of it, although I wouldn’t have known how to articulate it then. I understood something about women looking out for each other. About the comfort of being understood by another woman. About how much easier things can feel when someone has your back.

Then I became a mother, and I started to notice it everywhere.

Not because women are the only people who help us. They’re not.

But I began to realise how often the small, everyday moments in my own life came from other women.

Some of them are my friends.

My sister.

My mother.

My family.

But then there are the women I don’t even know.

The woman at the checkout who stepped in to soothe a sibling fight while my hands were full.

The woman who helped me reverse my car through a tiny car park because I couldn’t see where I was going.

The waitress who helped me when my toddler was having big emotions over a spilled milkshake and I was feeling exposed, embarrassed and vulnerable.

The fellow mum in the car park who gave me a hug because she could see I’d had a morning.

None of these moments seemed particularly significant at the time.

That’s what struck me.

These women were simply going about their days.

Noticing.

Remembering.

Offering a hand.

Making space.

Being kind.

They probably didn’t go home thinking, I really helped that woman today.

But they did.

Their tiny acts of kindness and empathy made my day better.

And it made me wonder how often we do this for each other without ever knowing.

How many women have made our lives a little lighter without realising it?

How many times has a woman noticed something, offered a hand, saved us a seat, sent a message, made us laugh or simply understood — and then carried on with her day?

Women was inspired by those moments.

By the friends and sisters and family members who are woven through our lives.

But also by the women whose names we might never learn.

The women who make an ordinary Tuesday feel a little different.

This book is for them.
